Mr. Irvin Naylor was presented with the Johnny Eareckson Memorial
Wrestling Award on Sunday, May 20th, 2007 at the McDonogh School.
This award is presented to that individual who has demonstrated those
qualities of inspiration and distinguished service to the Maryland
Wrestling Committee, as exemplified by Johnny Eareckson.
Mr. Irv Naylor is a long-time sponsor and supporter of wrestling in
Maryland. A high school state champion, he was unbeaten as an
intramural wrestler from 1955-60 at the University of Miami (Fla.), which
had no varsity program. “Wrestling,” he writes, “has made me aware of
the importance and necessity of relying, above all else, on oneself.”
As a trustee and secretary of The McDonogh School, Mr. Naylor has
helped oversee the expansion of that school’s facilities to some of the
best in the state. His son, Scott, and his grandson, Chet, also
represented McDonogh as high school state champions.
The McDonogh School is very proud to have the Naylor's as a member of
the McDonogh family and a key contributor to the success of McDonogh
wrestling.
